Further Conflicts – Launch
Product Information
We at NewCon Press are delighted to announce the release of our latest anthology, to be launched in April at Illustrious: Eastercon 2011. This year’s convention is themed on military SF. Following the success of Conflicts, launched at last year’s Eastercon, it seemed foolish not to explore the same theme further.
The new anthology therefore takes some familiar elements from the first book and mixes in radically different ones as well, both in terms of contributors and approach. So we welcome back Andy Remic, Eric Brown and Gareth L Powell from Conflicts, the latter two providing stand-alone stories set in the same universe as their Conflicts stories. To these we add ten exciting new contributors to the theme. Dan Abnett (the UK’s best selling SF author for the past two years) gives us a gritty view of a beleaguered army unit fighting a disturbingly alien war; Adam Roberts reveals the chilling fate of those crewing a Russian ice submarine in a dystopian world; South African author Lauren Beukes, whose latest novel Zoo City is causing such a stir, takes us inside the powder-keg environment of an alien prison installation; Tony Ballantyne follows the experiences of a war artist who is increasingly puzzled by the succession of military interventions he attends; Stephen Palmer shows us a Welsh pub under siege; and Kim Lakin-Smith bids you enter Ridgeway school, which falls victim to the dreaded Harvesters. Plus stories of drama, violence, deception and pathos from Philip Palmer, Colin Harvey, Steve Longworth and Tim C Taylor
